What is Mistplay?

Mistplay is an Android-only reward app that pays you (in PayPal cash or gift cards) for discovering and playing new mobile games. It's been operating since 2015 and is the largest reward app in this category — more than 500,000 Google Play ratings at a 4.0+ average.

The business model: game publishers pay Mistplay a fee for each user who downloads + plays their game. Mistplay shares a portion of that fee with you. You're literally paid to try new games.

There is no iOS version. Apple's App Store restricts apps that pay for game discovery, so Mistplay has remained Android-only for a decade.

How Mistplay works

  1. Download Mistplay from the Google Play Store (Android only, free).
  2. Browse the Mixlist — Mistplay's curated list of games that pay you for playing.
  3. Install a game through Mistplay's interface (this is the key — installing outside the Mistplay app doesn't earn you anything).
  4. Play. You earn GXP (game experience points) and units (Mistplay's redeemable currency) based on play time, milestones, and game-specific bonuses.
  5. Earn additional bonuses for completing in-game challenges (reach level 10, win 5 matches, etc.).
  6. Cash out at $5 minimum via Amazon gift card, PayPal (via Tango), Visa prepaid, or Google Play credit.

How we tested

We installed Mistplay on a dedicated Android test phone. Used it for 30 days during commute time and evening downtime — averaging 35 minutes/day, mostly in 10-minute sessions.

$2.40/hour
Effective hourly rate
Source: our calculation

The hourly rate ($2.40) is honest — Mistplay isn't a job. It's spare-minute monetization. If the alternative to your Mistplay time is social-media scrolling, the math is fine. If you'd otherwise be earning $20/hour doing something else, don't bother.

Is Mistplay legit?

Yes:

  1. Mistplay Inc. has operated since 2015 — long continuous-operation record.
  2. 500,000+ Google Play reviews at a 4.0+ average — large sample, mostly positive.
  3. We cashed out three separate times — $10 Amazon gift card (instant), $15 PayPal (1 business day), $17 Amazon (instant).

What's NOT a Mistplay scam: the app itself. What IS a common misconception: that you'll earn $50+/hour. You won't. Reward apps make money from publisher fees, which means the per-user payout is genuinely modest.

Earning reality

Mistplay realistic earnings by usage tier
Usage tierDaily timeMonthly netBest for
Casual5–10 min$3–$10Replacing micro-scrolling moments
Steady20–30 min$15–$30Replacing 30 min of casual gaming or social media
Active (our test)35–60 min$30–$50Existing mobile gamers who'd be playing anyway
Power user2+ hours$60–$80Milestone chasers — only worth it if you genuinely enjoy mobile games

The "$60–$80 power-user" tier requires chasing specific high-value milestone offers (level 50 in a specific RPG, etc.). It's effort-intensive and the game variety can feel grindy. For most users, the "steady" tier is the realistic ceiling.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Genuinely no-deposit, no-loss-risk earning — pure upside in exchange for time
  • Cashouts are reliable — three for three in our test, including instant Amazon gift cards
  • Wide cashout options (PayPal, Amazon, Visa, Google Play, more)
  • Long operating history (since 2015) and big user base — established platform
  • Free download, free to use, no subscription
  • Mixlist updates frequently — new games rotate in to prevent grind staleness

Cons

  • Android only — no iOS version available, won't change anytime soon
  • Earning ceiling is modest — $30–$45/month is realistic for active users
  • Effective hourly rate is well below minimum wage ($2–$4/hour)
  • Mistplay-installed games often request extensive permissions
  • Some featured games are clearly designed for engagement loops, not enjoyment
  • Milestone-hunt earning requires chasing achievements in games you might not love

Who Mistplay is best for

  • Android users with regular pockets of downtime (commutes, waiting rooms, evening wind-down)
  • People who already play casual mobile games — Mistplay turns existing time into earnings
  • Users wanting to stack a no-risk income layer alongside skill-cash games or surveys
  • First-time reward-app users — Mistplay is the most established option, low risk to try

Who should skip it

  • iPhone users — Mistplay doesn't exist on iOS. Try KashKick or AppStation instead.
  • People expecting meaningful income — this is supplemental, not substantial
  • Anyone who finds mobile gaming tedious — the time investment outweighs earnings if you don't enjoy the games
  • People sensitive to app permissions — Mistplay-discovered games often want a lot of data

The honest hierarchy for Android users: Mistplay first, KashKick second, others as supplemental. For iOS users: KashKick is the closest functional equivalent to Mistplay.

How to actually earn well on Mistplay

  1. Always install games through Mistplay — outside-installed games don't earn anything.
  2. Stick with games you'd actually enjoy — grinding games you hate burns motivation faster than it earns money.
  3. Watch for "boosted" units periods — Mistplay periodically increases earn rates on specific games. Concentrate play during those.
  4. Chase the milestone bonuses that match your natural playstyle. Skip the ones that require completionism if that's not how you play.
  5. Cash out frequently — Amazon gift cards arrive instantly and beat letting your balance sit. Cash out at $5–$10 increments.

The bottom line

Mistplay is the most established Android reward app and it genuinely pays. Our $42 over 30 days is real, replicable, and required no deposit — only time we'd otherwise have spent on social media or casual mobile games.

It's not a path to meaningful income. It is a clean ~$30–$45/month layer for Android users who enjoy mobile gaming. Stack it with skill-cash games (if you're willing to take real-money risk) or with surveys + cashback for a more diversified earnings mix. See our full play-to-earn ranking for how Mistplay fits.

For iOS users without a Mistplay equivalent, KashKick is the closest match — slightly higher earning ceiling driven by occasional high-value offers, but the same no-deposit framework.
